If there is a common thread in the Sunstone community, it might just be the fascination with knowing insider information about things which are complex and mysterious. So if you’ll allow me to channel Leonard Arrington for a moment, I’m going to pull back the curtain on the Sunstone audio archives [...]

My first Salt Lake Symposium as Director of Outreach and Symposia is behind me. Whew!
I’m elated about the positive feedback on the event, unsurprised about most of the complaints, a little sad–and a lot relieved–that it’s over, and I’m already thinking ahead for the 2009 symposium 12-15 August.
We’re working on getting the mp3 audio recordings [...]

Pardon the (brief) interruption to the gay marriage discussions.
I wanted to direct your attention to the revised version of the 2008 Salt Lake Sunstone Symposium preliminary program posted on the Sunstone web site. At this writing, the symposium is 16 days away. There’s a lot of work to do and much to look forward to! [...]

John Remy’s article “Saving the Dead: A Comparative Study of Post-funerary Rites in Japanese and Mormon Culture” in the November issue of Sunstone came to me, rather serendipitously, at a time I had been thinking about the very anti-Reformationist relationship we Mormons have with our dead. Like the Roman Catholics, we perform an obligation we [...]

My mission to Taipei, Taiwan from 1989-1990 was filled with singular experiences; your mission to Timbuktu was doubtless no exception. But can you top this?
My companion and I were street-contacting in Nan Kang, a newly opened area and small suburb of Taipei, when we stumbled upon a small college. Perfect: College Students! College Students made [...]

Are new insights into Mormonism waiting to be uncovered if we were only to pay more attention to the religion and less to its founder? In her article “Tracking the Sincere Believer” (Sunstone: December 2005), Laurie Maffly-Kipp entices us with such a promise, but I was forced to wonder at times to whom is the [...]
