Another Contributor for SunstoneBlog—Rory Swensen

As John mentioned last week, SunstoneBlog is adding several new authors to its lineup. It’s great to see Stephen Carter’s post draw such good, thoughtful attention. And I know that you’ll also find our next new blogger, Rory Swensen, an equally insightful and provocative writer and thinker.

Here’s what Rory had to say by way of introduction. He’ll post his first piece shortly.

I’m not big on writing about myself, so I asked my twelve-year-old son
to write something for me. He sent the following text message (if you
can figure it out, you are more “with it” than I am):

After trying to decipher this I am confident that my free time will
now include a healthy dose of teaching my children English.

For now, suffice it to say that I am a lifelong member that grew up in
a small town East of Salt Lake. I served a foreign-speaking mission to
Georgia (the state, not the country), and as such I am fluent in both
American English and Southern Drawl. I’ve served in various callings,
but my activity levels seem to fluctuate throughout the year with a
surprisingly direct correlation to football season.

While I earn a living in business and technology my personal interests
lie in history, philosophy, and science - an eclectic mix that enables
me to be wrong most of the time, but wrong with style. I am also
presently completing a Masters degree in the humanities with a
philosophy concentration. How this degree will serve me remains
unclear, but being a perpetual student allows me to defer those pesky
student loan payments.

In my free time I coach youth sports and manage to occasionally spend
a few hours improving on my spectacularly mediocre golf game.

My wife Krista and I, both impenitent Parrotheads, have four children.
