SunstonePodcast #007: Cool Mormons Everyone Should Know — Jana Riess

In this edition of SunstonePodcast, Dan Wotherspoon interviews Jana Riess, religion book editor for Publisher’s Weekly, co-author (with Christopher Bigelow) of Mormonism for Dummies, and author of five other books including The Book of Mormon: Selections Annotated and Explained (Skylight Paths, 2005), and What Would Buffy Do? The Vampire Slayer as Spiritual Guide (Jossey-Bass, 2003). Jana is also the author of a regular Sunstone column, “Anxiously Engaged.” The interview touches on these projects, along with Jana’s path from preparing to become a Presbyterian minister to joining the LDS church, and Jana’s interests in religious praxis over doctrine, and in “spiritual renewal” among Latter-day Saints.

Most of all, as Dan shares in the early part of the podcast, Jana is simply “One of the Cool Mormons Everyone Deserves to Get to Know.”

  1. I really enjoyed this podcast and enjoyed listening to the dialogue. I’ve enjoyed some of Riess’ columns and enjoyed the personality that comes through on the podcast. The podcast adds to my Sunstone experience. I’m making a mental note to look through my back issues of Sunstone to re-read some of her columns.

A series of podcast interviews of “cool Mormons” interests me and I’m looking forward to additional installments. Question for Dan : Who is on the list for upcoming podcasts ?
