“The New Missionary Discussions and the Future of Correlation” — By John-Charles Duffy
The September 2005 Sunstone magazine is here! As you may know, we release an article or two from each issue on the web for public consumption. Each time we release a magazine, we will create a few posts for people to discuss articles or parts of the magazine.
The September 2005’s cover story is John-Charles Duffy’s article entitled: The New Missionary Discussion and the Future of Correlation. It takes an in-depth look at how the missionary discussions have changed over time (side-by-side analysis), and highlights many of the significant changes/approaches in the new “Preach My Gospel” missionary curriculum.
Duffy’s piece is also very interesting for the way it uses the missionary discussions as a lens for understanding how Church leaders are shaping the gospel message for the 21st century.
JOHN-CHARLES DUFFY is a William N. Reynolds Fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is working toward a doctorate in religious studies. His interest in the development of LDS missionary discussions dates back nearly a decade, to his first Sunstone symposium presentation in 1996. He used the 1986 discussions while serving a mission in the Dominican Republic.
Please check out this article, and return to discuss!!!
